3rd Party QC & Inspection Services

BIG's 3rd party QC and inspection services provide independent, attested quality oversight for EPC construction projects, including CWI welding inspection, API pressure vessel inspection, NACE coating inspection, and complete turnover documentation assembly.

What is 3rd Party QC Inspection?

Third-party quality control inspection is an independent verification service that ensures construction work meets the specified codes, standards, and project requirements. When an EPC contractor builds a chemical plant, frac unit, or processing facility, the owner/operator requires an independent firm — separate from the contractor — to verify and attest that the work was done correctly.

This independent attestation is not optional. It is required by regulatory bodies, insurance carriers, and standard EPC contract terms. The 3rd party inspector provides the attested signature on all turnover documentation — the final record that the facility was built to spec.

BIG provides this independent oversight from first weld to final turnover, maintaining continuity and documentation integrity throughout the project lifecycle.

The Turnover Documentation Process

The turnover package is the single most important deliverable of any EPC construction project. It is the permanent record that proves the facility was built to specification. BIG manages the turnover documentation process from day one, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.

What's in a turnover package? Weld maps, inspection reports, NDE results, material test reports (MTRs), hydrostatic test records, coating inspection reports, punch lists, as-built drawings, and the 3rd party attestation that ties it all together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 3rd party QC inspection?

Third-party QC inspection is an independent quality verification service provided by a firm that is not part of the EPC contractor or the owner/operator. The 3rd party inspector provides attested documentation that the construction work meets the specified codes, standards, and project specifications.

Why can't the EPC contractor do their own QC?

EPC contractors typically have their own internal QC department. However, owner/operators require an independent 3rd party to provide attested signatures on turnover documentation. This independent verification is required for regulatory compliance, insurance requirements, and to protect the owner's capital investment.

What certifications do your inspectors hold?

BIG inspectors hold certifications including AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), API 510 (pressure vessels), API 570 (piping), API 653 (tanks), NACE/AMPP coating inspection, OSHA 30-Hour, and TWIC credentials.

How quickly can you mobilize an inspection team?

BIG can typically mobilize inspectors within 48-72 hours for Houston-area projects. For Gulf Coast projects outside of Houston, mobilization is typically within one week.

What codes and standards do you inspect to?

We inspect to ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API 510, API 570, API 653, NACE/AMPP coating standards, and project-specific specifications.

How much does a 3rd party inspector cost?

Rates vary by discipline and project requirements. CWI inspectors typically range from $75-95/hour or $650-850/day. Contact us for a project-specific quote.
